The common skin growth called a skin tag, or acrochordon, usually develops in folds of skin and causes little to no harm. Still, these growths can be irritating, and doctors can easily remove them.
Skin tags are typically completely harmless, but they can be quite unattractive, which is why most people want to have them taken off. If you attempt to remove them at home, it can be quite painful and they may end up growing back anyway.
Skin tags appear commonly, affecting about 45 percent of the population. They tend to happen more frequently among older people, women, the overweight and those with diabetes.
One of the things that people hate the most about skin tags is that they can grow just about anywhere eon the body. They are most common in areas where your skin folds in on itself, such as behind the knees, under the arms or near your elbow. In reality, however, people get them all over the body. Having them removed is typically going to require that they are held firmly and then cut with a scalpel so that it is nice and even with your skin.
In most cases, the skin is located in an area that won’t require any additional treatment because the skin around it is not too sensitive. For things like genital skin tags or those that grow on the face, however, it may be a good idea to apply an antiseptic ointment or other medication to help the area to hear quickly and reduce irritation. When you come to Skin Karma, our dermatologist will provide you with the recommended recovery steps to help ensure you not only experience as little discomfort as possible, but also to help ensure that the skin tags removal is permanent.
