Warts are growths of the skin and appear in form of small, rough, flesh coloured bumps typically on hands and feet. They are benign skin growths caused by infection of human papilloma virus (HPV) and can become painful and irritating besides being cosmetically undesired.
The three kinds of warts include:
- Common warts– Typically appearing around the fingernails and on the back of the hands, but may grow anywhere on the body.
- Planter or Foot warts– Found on the soles of feet, plantar warts often get into the deeper layer of skin because of the pressure caused by walking and standing.
- Flat warts– These may appear anywhere but most typically on face, forehead and legs. They have a tendency to grow in large numbers.
